Letter from the President
Dear CINP members,
I am honored to have been elected as the President of CINP and thus to become part of the illustrious group of leading neuropsychopharmacologists who have been CINP Presidents. This implies the responsibility to ensure that the CINP continues to grow and to become the central organisation for neuropsychopharmacologists all around the world, whether in academia or in industry, preclinical or clinically oriented.
CINP is the only truly global organisation devoted to
neuropsychopharmacology with members in every
continent It organizes the leading international
congress of neuropsychoparmacology and these have taken place all around the world.
There is now a network of Regional Committees and many of them are highly active. They
help CINP to run regional meetings and educational activities. We plan to work with them
and find new ways to improve our coordination and interaction, so that CINP has a clear
and consistent position wherever its activities originate or are conducted. We thus need to
continue to work together and support each other.
The other distinguishing feature of CINP is the enviably high scientific and clinical quality of both our membership and the content of our events throughout our history.
I very much intend to ensure that this is maintained and even enhanced. Our ambition should be to have every leading neuropsychopharmacologist in every country as a member of CINP who participates actively in our activities. Although we must continue to support the development of individuals and countries with less advantaged situations this must not be at the expense of aiming for the highest standards and achievements. We must find creative ways of accommodating the ambitions and needs of all who aim for world leading research wherever they are and whatever their situation. Age, gender, racial origins are of course all irrelevant – the quality of the science and its degree of originality are the only truly important factors.
We must continue to strengthen our membership and activities in the fastest developing areas. CINP has a strong position in the Asia-Pacific region and this must be strengthened further. We have established strong links with China and have a very sound position in Japan, Korea and Australia amongst others. This is an excellent basis on which to build on as this region becomes ever more important in all scientific fields. To emphasis our commitment to this region further our 2010 Congress will be in Hong Kong. I look forward to helping develop our relationships in this exciting region.
We need to continue to enhance our relationship with all our members and to embrace the new communication technologies in order to improve our links with each other. We need to find out better what our members want from CINP. This must be a dynamic growing organisation with high standards and ambitions. We want to increase the size of our membership and its coverage and we will work hard towards this end.
Finally I must admit that none of this can be possible without an outstanding support. We have a new Central Office and Executive Director who will do their best to help CINP achieve these ambitious goals. Only with a professional and dedicated core organisation is it likely that we will succeed. I must also acknowledge the deep commitment and dedication of the Executive Committee and Council together with all the various committees. They form a great team working on your behalf. We in partnership with the Local Organising Committee led by Prof. Hans-Jürgen Möller are now working hard to make our next congress in Munich in July 2008, the 50th Anniversary of the CINP, the most successful CINP congress ever. We naturally expect to see as many of you there as possible participating in this historical event.
